New Trooper Trainee
- While in the academy: $25.68/hour
- After Graduation
- 0-3 years in rank: $28.31
- 4-5 years in rank: $29.73
Currently certified Law Enforcement transitioning to Trooper
- While in the academy – 3 years in rank: $29.03/hour
- 4-5 years in rank: $30.46
Master Trooper/Technical Trooper
Eligible after 5 years as Trooper:
- 0-3 years in rank: $31.22
- 4-5 years in rank: $32.78
- 6-8 years in rank: $34.42
- 9-10 years in rank: $36.13
- 11-13 years in rank: $37.95
- 14-15 years in rank: $39.84
- 16+ years in Rank: $41.81
Promotions
After 5 years of service, Troopers are eligible for promotion to Technical Trooper or Master Trooper and receive an accompanying salary increase. Technical Troopers must meet certain qualifications and receive additional training in specialized areas.
Additional years of service and experience can lead to additional promotional opportunities:
- Lieutenant
- Captain
- Major
- Lieutenant Colonel (Assistant Superintendent)
- Colonel (Superintendent) Governor appointed
Retirement
Troopers are members of the Kansas Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (KP&F). Members may retire at age 50 with 25 years of service, age 55 with 20 years of service, or age 60 with 15 years of service. KP&F members receive maximum retirement benefits after 36 years of service.
