About the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP)

The mission of providing Service, Courtesy, and Protection was first laid in place when the agency was formed in 1937. The Patrol’s Kansas State Troopers, and civilian personnel are devoted to improving the quality of life for every citizen and traveler in Kansas through spirited and dedicated service.
There are more than 800 members of the Patrol.
Troopers are vested with statewide authority and dedicate themselves to enforcing critical traffic laws, such as speeding, occupant protection and impaired driving laws. The Patrol can respond anywhere in the state, and the Patrol’s Communications Center works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Every Trooper is highly trained, and the Patrol’s specialty units are on hand to assist other agencies across the state with tasks such as commercial motor vehicle enforcement, police service dog deployment and training, air support and investigation services.
The Patrol prides itself in the work we do every day on the highways and within our communities. We are proud to serve in the great State of Kansas.
