KHP Hosts Call In Session as Part of Accreditation Process
In March, the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy will be undergoing an on-site assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), as part of the agency’s goal to become an accredited law enforcement agency. The Kansas Highway Patrol has been working on its accreditation process since January 2019. During the process, there will be opportunities for the public to express their feelings toward the Patrol, and the agency encourages the public to take the opportunity to provide feedback.

On March 9-11, 2020, a team of law enforcement executives from CALEA are scheduled to conduct an on-site assessment to verify that the Kansas Highway Patrol meets over 189 state-of-the-art standards. As part of the assessment process, the Patrol invites the community to call in or write their comments.

If you would like to provide comments to the assessment team, you may call 785-260-3006 between 2 – 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.

Written comments can be sent to:
The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320
Gainesville, Virginia 20155

The assessment team will be comprised of law enforcement practitioners from similar, but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed. Once the review is completed, full findings will be reported back to the Commission, who will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status.

After the Kansas Highway Patrol completes their accreditation process, accreditation is granted for four years. The Kansas Highway Patrol welcomes your participation in the assessment through the call-in session or in written format.
