Headquartered in Wichita, Troop G patrols the Turnpike 24 hours a day. While covering the 236.6 miles and 11 counties between the Oklahoma border south of Wellington and Kansas City, Troop G also provides security at the interchange and service areas, deal with unpaid tolls, and perform special projects for the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA), which contracts with the Patrol for Troop G's services.
Troop G has its own communications center, which communicates directly with troopers, toll plazas, and KTA maintenance personnel. The communications center is also responsible for reporting weather conditions, posting messages on the dynamic message signs, and monitoring security systems.
Preliminary crash reports for injury and fatality crashes worked on the Kansas Turnpike can be found on the Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log by searching Kansas Turnpike Authority on the county list.
