The Chief Legal Counsel provides legal advice to the Superintendent, Command Staff, and agency management. Trooper inquiries also are handled on matters affecting the Patrol. Legal research and writing, and legal representation on a variety of issues - including areas of constitutional queries, criminal and civil law, employment actions, Loudermill hearings, civil service proceedings, and open records requests - are provided by the legal section. The Chief Legal Counsel also oversees the Patrol's Asset Forfeiture Section and serves as a liaison to the Kansas Attorney General and other state and federal agencies.
