Training
Law Enforcement Officer
Recruits will attend and complete a certified Kansas Law Enforcement training academy and graduate as a Certified Kansas Law Enforcement Officer within 12 months of appointment. Anyone with Certified Kansas Law Enforcement Officer credentials must be in good standing with CPOST. These candidates would not have to repeat a training academy. Experienced instructors and coaches lead the recruits through an extensive curriculum of basic and advanced law enforcement courses. Upon graduation the recruits will begin 16 weeks of field training with a veteran officer. Training provides extensive focus in::
- Accident investigations
- Drug enforcement
- Emergency medical care
- Instruction on how to testify in court
- Interpersonal relations
- Misdemeanor and felony arrest techniques
- Pursuit and defensive driving techniques
- Traffic and criminal laws
- Use of firearms
Capitol Area Guard
Guards will receive up to 6 weeks of detained on the job training.
Communications Specialist
Communication Specialists will receive up to 12 weeks of intensive intra-agency training.
