Located in the densely populated area of eastern Kansas, the east region includes the Kansas City metropolitan area, Topeka, Lawrence, Emporia, Pittsburg, and Chanute.
Fort Leavenworth, the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth, and the Lansing
Correctional Facility are located within this region. The East Region is
also home to numerous community, public, and private colleges,

University of Kansas
Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Center, the Kansas Speedway and the Legends are located in the east region. The Tribal nations (including Pottawatomie, Kickapoo, Iowa, and Sac and Fox) are located in the east region, each with a casino.
The Patrol's General Headquarters and the State Capitol of Kansas are also in the east region's geographic area. Motorist Assistance units operate in the metropolitan areas assisting stranded motorists and keeping traffic moving safely.
Troop I troopers are assigned to the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) and the Critical Highway Accident Response Team (CHART). Troop I staff also supervise all motor carrier inspection/weigh stations with fixed scales throughout the state. Geographically, there are two weigh stations within the east region, located in Olathe, along I-35, and Wabaunsee County, along I-70. Troop I also oversees all motor carrier inspectors operating throughout the state with the common goal of commercial vehicle safety.
Troop K, provides law enforcement services and security to State owned properties in Topeka. Troop K has a designated Bicycle Patrol Unit, Investigation’s Unit, to include dispatch and security camera monitoring functions, to ensure safety and security to the service area.
